  1. 2 large green apples, peeled and sliced

  2. 165g plain flour

  3. 150g caster sugar

  4. 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder

  5. 1 1/2 teaspoons buttermilk

  6. 150g butter, melted

  7. cinnamon for sprinkling

  8. extra sugar for sprinkling

  1. Preheat oven to 200 C / Gas 6.

  2. Mix together flour, sugar, baking powder, butter and buttermilk.

  3. Pour batter into a broad pie dish and bake for 8 minutes.

  4. Remove dish from oven and arrange sliced apples into the semi-cooked cake batter. Sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon.

  5. Bake for a further 35 minutes.
