  1. Rice 2 cups

  3. 1 cup

  4. 3 tsp. 1/2 cup of water

  5. Grated Coconut 1 tbsp.

  6. Sambhar powder 2 tbsp.

  7. Turmeric Powder 1/2 tsp.

  8. Asafetida Powder 1/4 tsp.

  9. Dry red chillies 3

  10. Onions 2

  11. Sliced

  12. Mustard seeds 1 tsp.

  13. Gram dhal 1 tsp (Curry leaves a few)

  14. Ghee 3 tbsp.

  15. Salt to taste

  16. Water 5 cups

  1. Wash the rice and soak for 10 minutes.

  2. Cook the rice and lentil in a pressure cooker with 5 cups of water for 10 minutes.

  3. When the rice is cooked, add the tamarind paste mixed in water, sambhar powder, turmeric powder, asofoetida,grated coconut and the mixed vegetables, cook on low heat until the vegetables are cooked, stirring often. Add salt.

  4. In a small sauce pan heat the ghee add the mustard seeds, dry chillies,gram dhal curry leaves and the sliced onions, sauté until the onions turn brown.

  5. Add to the rice mixture, stir well and serve warm with Pappadams.
