  1. Spring onion - 1 cup (chopped)

  2. Tomato - 1 no

  3. Green chillies or red chillies - 5 - 6 nos

  4. (Channa dal or) urad dal - 1 tbsp

  5. Grated coconut - 2 tbsp

  6. Tamarind - (1 small piece)

  7. Coriander leaves - 2 tbsp

  8. Salt as per taste

  9. water

  10. Cooking oil - 1 tbsp

  11. To temper:

  12. Cooking oil - 1 tsp

  13. Mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp

  14. Urad dal - 1/2 tsp

  15. Hing - (A generous pinch)

  1. Chop the spring onions , tomato. Grate coconut..Soak tamarind in little water.

  2. Heat 1 tbsp of oil in a kadai and roast the dal with hing. Remove the dal alone and keep it in a plate..

  3. In the same oil , saute the spring onions , tomato , chillies , Grated coconut and salt.. Saute well till the onion shrinks and tomato mushes.. Cool & grind it to a smooth paste adding the soaked tamarind with water.. Make a paste..

  4. Finally add the coriander leaves & grind again to a paste..

  5. Temper with the above ingredients..Add to chutney Serve with idli , dosa topped with sesame oil !!
