  4. 5-1/3 cups thinly sliced apples

  5. 2-3/4 teaspoons lemon juice

  6. 1-1/3 cups white sugar

  7. 1/4 cup and 2 teaspoons cornstarch

  8. 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

  9. 1/4 teaspoon salt

  10. 1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg

  11. 3 cups water

  1. In a large bowl, toss apples with lemon juice and set aside.

  2. Pour water into a Dutch oven over medium heat.

  3. Combine sugar, cornstarch, cinnamon, salt and nutmeg.

  4. Add to water, stir well, and bring to a boil. Boil for 2 minutes, stirring constantly.

  5. Add apples and return to a boil.

  6. Reduce heat, cover and simmer until apples are tender, about 6 to 8 minutes.

  7. Cool for 30 minutes.

  8. Seal and freeze if there is leftovers..

  9. Can be stored for up to 12 months.
