  1. 1/2 cup ketchup

  2. 1/2 cup water

  3. 3/4 cup uncooked oatmeal , quick or regular

  4. 1 egg

  5. 1/2 teaspoon salt

  6. 1/4 teaspoon pepper

  7. 1 1/2 pounds lean ground beef

  8. 1/4 cup chopped onion , optional

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Combine all ingredients except ground beef; mix well. Add ground beef; mix lightly but thoroughly. Press into 8x4 inch loaf pan; bake 1 hour. Drain; let stand 5 minutes. NOTE: This recipe appeared in Ann Landers advice column in the newspaper many years ago. The original recipe called for one cup of tomato juice, but I prefer to substitute ketchup and water. You can also substitute ½ lb. ground turkey for an equivalent amount of ground beef. If ground turkey is used, increase salt slightly.
