  1. 6 ounces strawberry Jell-O -

  2. 1 3/4 cups boiling water -

  3. 1 1/4 cups applesauce -

  4. 10 ounces frozen strawberries, partially thawed Optional: lettuce leaves, mayonnaise, and citrus zest for garnish

  1. Bring the water to a boil on the stovetop or in the microwave. Pour the dry Jell-O powder into a large glass bowl, and carefully pour the boiling water over the Jell-O. Stir until completely dissolved; then let it stand for 5 minutes. Add the applesauce and the partially thawed strawberries to the gelatin. Mix the ingredients; then refrigerate the mixture until firm (about 2 hours). The salad may be served on lettuce leaves and topped with a dollop of mayonnaise. Garnish the salad with citrus zest.
