  6. 1 1/2 cups Sugar

  7. 1/2 teaspoon Light corn syrup

  8. 2/3 cup Water -- boiling

  9. 2 Egg whites -- stiffly beaten

  10. 1 teaspoon Vanilla

  11. Combine sugar, corn syrup, and water. Bring quickly to a boil, stirring

  12. only until sugar is dissolved. Boil rapidly, without stirring, until small

  13. amount of syrup forms a soft ball in cold water, or spins a long thread

  14. when dropped from tip of spoon ( 240

  15. deg. F.). Pour syrup in fine stream over egg whites, beating constantly.

  16. 10 to 15 minutes, or until frosting is cool and of right consistency to spread. Use wooden

  17. spoon when too stiff for beater. Make s enough frosting to cover tops and 9-inch layers. Kate Smith Collection
