  2. 2 tablespoons sugar

  3. 1/2 cup molasses

  4. 1 teaspoon baking soda

  5. 1/2 cup hot water

  6. 1/2 teaspoon salt

  7. 1 cup cranberries, cut in half

  8. 1 1/2 cups flour

  9. Warm Butter Sauce (recipe follows)

  10. Using a wooden spoon, combine the sugar and molasses in a medium

  11. bowl. Mix the soda in hot water, and pour it into the sugar mixture.

  12. Add the salt and cranberries, and stir well. Add the flour and mix. Butter a 1 pound coffee can. Pour the dough in and put the cover

  13. on the can. Place in a deep kettle of hot water. Put the lid on

  14. the kettle and steam for 3 hours, keeping the water in the kettle

  15. simmering. (Watch so this doesn't simmer dry. Add water to the

  16. kettle if necessary, but be careful no water gets into the pudding

  17. can.)

  18. Warm Butter Sauce

  19. 1/2 cup butter

  20. 1/2 cup cream

  21. 1 cup sugar

  22. 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  23. In a heavy saucepan, combine the butter, cream and sugar. Boil on

  24. medium heat until clear. Stir in the vanilla and serve hot over

  25. hot cranberry pudding.
