  1. 1 lb 454g / 16oz Fresh polish sausage - or bratwurst, up to

  2. 2 1 Sauerkraut - rinsed and drained

  3. 1 Tomatoes with liquid - cut up

  4. 1 cup 110g / 3.9oz Chopped celery

  5. 1 cup 62g / 2 1/5oz Onion - chopped (large)

  6. 1 cup 146g / 5.1oz Green pepper - chopped (large)

  7. 3 tablespoons 45ml Brown sugar

  8. 1 Bay leaf

  9. 1 teaspoon 5ml Dried oregano

  10. 1/2 teaspoon 2 1/2ml Salt

  11. 1/4 teaspoon 1 1/3ml Pepper Mashed potatoes - optional

  1. Recipe Instructions Cut the sausage into 1" slices. Saute in a Dutch oven until fully cooked and browned. Drain. Add sauerkraut, tomatoes with liquid, celery, onion, green pepper, brown sugar and seasonings. Mix well. Cover and simmer for 20-25 minutes. or until vegetables are tender. Remove bay leaf. Serve over mashed potatoes, if desired.
