  1. 1 c Shortening or butter

  2. 1 c Chopped dates

  3. 2 c Raisins

  4. 1 c Chopped walnuts

  5. 1/2 c Sour cream or buttermilk

  6. 1 ts Nutmeg

  7. 2 ts Cinnamon

  8. 1/2 ts Salt

  9. 1 ts Baking soda

  10. 1 ts Baking powder

  11. 3 1/2 c All-purpose flour

  12. 2 Eggs

  13. 2 c Brown sugar

  14. Whole walnuts

  1. A simple cookie that goes well with a cold glass of milk.

  2. Preheat oven to 350.

  3. In a large bowl, blend together shortening or butter and brown sugar.

  4. Beat in eggs.

  5. Stir in flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt.

  6. Add spices.

  7. Stir in sour cream or buttermilk, then add walnuts, raisins and dates.

  8. Stir well.

  9. Drop by teaspoonfuls onto a greased cookie sheet.

  10. Top each cookie with a whole walnut.

  11. Bake 12-15 minutes at 350.

  12. Remove to a wire rack to cool.

  13. Yield: 6 dozen.
