  2. two 750ml bottles dry red wine

  3. two 750ml bottles ruby port

  4. 2 cups sugar

  5. 2 tbsp. grated orange peel

  6. 2 cinnamon sticks, broken in half

  7. 12 whole cloves

  8. 2 1/2 tsp. cardamom seeds

  9. 3/4 tsp. whole allspice berries

  10. 2/3 cup raisins

  11. 2/3 cup whole almonds

  1. Combine wine, port, sugar, orange peel, cinnamon sticks, cloves, cardamom seeds and allspice berries in a large saucepan. Heat to a simmer, stirring to dissolve sugar-Don't boil. Simmer 30 minutes over very low heat. Strain into a pitcher or serving bowl. Stir in raisins. Place a couple almonds in the bottom of 12 small cups and pour wine mixture over. Serve immediately.
