Instructions Jump to Ingredients ↑

  1. Prepare pastry for 2 crust pie. Roll out half of pastry and line a 1 quart deep saucepan (or 2″ deep Pyrex pie pan). Then roll out remaining half of pastry for top crust.

  2. Peel, core and slice apples. Arrange half of apple slices in pastry lined saucepan. Mix together 1/2 cup sugar, flour, salt, nutmeg and cinnamon. Spoon about half of this mixture onto apple slices in saucepan. Add remaining apple slices and sprinkle with rest of sugar mixture. Dot with butter.

  3. Place top crust over apples. Flute around the edge and make slits on top. Bake in hot oven at 400 degrees about 50 minutes or until apples are done. Cool before decorating with frosting.

  4. Mix together until creamy: 1/4 cup powdered sugar, the water and lemon extract. Dribble this frosting over top crust in lattice pattern, (or to suit). Makes 4 to 5 servings.
