  1. 2 pounds beef shanks

  2. 2 cans tomato sauce -- (small)

  3. 2 teaspoons sugar

  4. 1/4 teaspoon pepper

  5. 1 medium onion -- chopped

  6. 1 wedge cabbage --

  7. 1"thick, chop

  8. 1 pound cut green beans

  9. 2 quarts water

  10. 2 beef bouillon cubes

  11. 1 teaspoon salt

  12. 2 whole cloves

  13. 3 turnips -- pared and diced or>

  14. 1 rutabaga -- small

  15. 1 cup uncooked elbow macaroni

  1. Preparation : In Dutch oven or kettle, combine beef, water, onion, tomato sauce, cabbage, bouillon cubes, sugar, salt, pepper and cloves. Bring to boil, simmer covered for 2 hrs. Add turnips, macaroni and beans. Simmer uncovered for 20 or 30 minutes more, or until tender.
