    1. 5 cups golden delicious apples -- pared,thinly sliced

    2. 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice

    3. 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour

    4. 1 teaspoon lemon peel

    5. 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg

    6. 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese -- shredded **TOPPING**

    7. 3/4 cup all-purpose flour

    8. 1/3 cup butter

    9. 1/3 cup sugar **CRUST**

    10. 3/4 cup butter -- softened

    11. 1/4 cup sugar

    12. 1 egg -- beaten

    13. 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

    14. 2 cups all-purpose flour

    15. 1/4 teaspoon salt

    1. Preparation : Makes 20 dessert-size portions or 52 cookies 1. Sprinkle apples with lemon juice; combine with sugar, flour, lemon peel, nutmeg and cheese, if desired.

    2. Spread evenly over crust; sprinkle topping over apple mixture.

    3. Bake in preheated 425 F. oven 20 to 25 minutes, or until apples are tender.
