  1. 1/2 cup(s) pecans

  2. 1 cup(s) applesauce

  3. 1/2 cup(s) golden raisins , I would try dried cranberries

  4. 1 stick(s) cinnamon

  5. 1 loaf(s) brioche , cut into 12 slices, heels discarded

  6. 4 large eggs , beaten

  7. 1/2 cup(s) heavy cream

  8. 2 tablespoon(s) sugar

  9. 1 teaspoon(s) pure vanilla extract

  10. 3 tablespoon(s) unsalted butter

  11. 3 tablespoon(s) canola oil

  12. Confectioners' sugar , for dusting

  13. Sweetened whipped cream , for serving

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Spread the pecans on a pie plate and toast for about 8 minutes. Let cool. Finely chop the pecans and transfer to a bowl. Add the applesauce, raisins, and cinnamon.

  2. Spread the filling on 6 of the bread slices, top with the remaining slices and close.

  3. In the pie plate, beat the eggs with the cream, sugar, and vanilla. Dip the sandwiches in the eggs and transfer to a baking sheet.

  4. In each of 2 large nonstick skillets, melt half of the butter in the oil. Add the French toast and cook over moderate heat, turning once, until browned and cooked through, 5 minutes. Dust with confectioners' sugar and serve with sweetened whipped cream.
