  1. 1 cup sifted regular flour

  2. 1 teaspoon salt

  3. 1/2 teaspoon baking powder --set aside --work with a spoon until soft.--

  4. 3/4 cup shortening --gradually add:--

  5. 1/2 cup sugar --beat until light -- then add:--

  6. 1 egg --beat until light and fluffy -- then add:--

  7. 1 cup firmly packed brown sugar

  8. 1 cup raisins

  9. 1/4 cup water

  10. 1 teaspoon vanilla -- beat well. -- gradually add dry -- ingredients mixing -- thoroughly ** -- add:

  11. 3 cups rolled oats -- uncooked

  1. Preparation : Stir until well blended. Drop by teaspoonful onto greased cookie sheets. Bake at 350 for 10-12 minutes, or until done. Cool on wire rack. Note: Nuts may be added, if desired.
