  1. 1 small onion

  2. 1 small potato

  3. 1 T. lard or oil

  4. 3/4 c. white wine

  5. 1 large can sauerkraut, about 28 oz.

  6. 2 tsp. sugar

  7. 8 oz. green grapes

  8. 1 tsp. caraway seed

  9. 2 oz. cooked, diced bacon

  1. Peel the onion and cut it in small dice. Peel and grate the potato.

  2. Sauté the onion for about 5 minutes in the lard or oil.

  3. Loosen the sauerkraut with a fork and rinse if it is too salty. Add the sauerkraut to the onion.

  4. Add the potato, the wine and the sugar. Stir and then simmer for at least 20 minutes.

  5. If you want to, add washed, halved grapes 10 minutes before serving. Don't forget to remove the seeds if they have any.

  6. You may also add some diced, cooked bacon and/or caraway seeds to the sauerkraut.
