  1. 1 cup (225 ml) yellow cornmeal

  2. 1/2 cup (125 ml) flour

  3. 1 tsp (5 ml) baking powder

  4. 1 tsp (5 ml) salt

  5. 1/2 tsp (2 ml) soda

  6. 1/2 tsp (2 ml) garlic powder

  7. 1/2 onion salt

  8. 1 egg, beaten well

  9. 1 cup (225 ml) buttermilk (start with 3/4 cup (175 ml) & add rest if needed)

  10. 1/4 cup (60 ml) chopped green onion

  11. optional: 1/4 cup (60 ml) freshly grated parmesan cheese or 1 cup (225 ml) corn

  12. Mix lightly. Form into walnut-sized balls.

  13. Deep fry at 375 degrees (200 C.) F., turning once.

  14. Drain well.
