  6. 3 c Cake Flour -- sifted

  7. 3 ts Baking Powder

  8. 1/2 ts Salt

  9. 2/3 c Butter -- or shortening

  10. 2 c Sugar

  11. 1 c Milk

  12. 1 1/2 ts Vanilla

  13. 6 Egg whites -- stiffly beaten

  14. Sift flour once, measure, add baking powder and salt,

  15. and sift together three times. Cream butter

  16. thoroughly, add sugar gradually, and cream together

  17. until light and fluffy. Add flour, altemately with

  18. milk, a small amount at a time, beating after each addition until smooth. Add fla- voring. Fold in egg

  19. whites quickly and thoroughly. Bake in three greased

  20. 9-inch layer pans in moderate oven ( 375 degrees F.)
