  1. 1 cup butter

  2. 1/4 cup brown sugar

  3. 1/4 cup sugar

  4. 1 egg

  5. 1 cup molasses

  6. 3 cups flour, sifted

  7. 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda

  8. 1 teaspoon cinnamon

  9. 1 teaspoon ground ginger

  10. 3/4 teaspoon salt

  11. 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves

  12. 1 cup hot water

  1. Preheat oven to 350° F.

  2. Butter 12 muffin cups.

  3. In medium bowl, cream butter and sugars until light. Beat in the egg and molasses. In a bowl, combine the flour, baking soda, cinnamon, ginger, salt, and cloves. Mix well and stir into the creamed butter alternately with the hot water, until the mixture is blended.

  4. Spoon into muffin cups and bake until browned and the muffins start to pull away from the sides of the pan, about 25 minutes. Serve with butter.

  5. Can be frozen.
