  3. 3/4 cup(s) dark brown sugar

  4. 1/4 cup(s) cocoa powder

  6. 1 1/2 teaspoon(s) cinnamon

  7. 1 teaspoon(s) salt

  8. 1/4 teaspoon(s) ground clove

  9. 12 tablespoon(s) unsalted butter , melted and cooled

  10. 1/2 cup(s) molasses

  11. 1/4 cup(s) whole milk

  12. 1 large egg

  13. 1 large egg yolk

  14. 1 1/2 teaspoon(s) baking soda

  15. 8 ounce(s) semisweet chocolate , roughly chopped

  1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees F.

  2. Butter and flour a 9- by 13-inch baking dish and set aside. Sift together all the dry ingredients into a large bowl.

  3. Combine the butter, molasses, milk, egg, and yolk in a medium bowl. Add the butter mixture to the flour mixture and stir to combine.

  4. In a small bowl, combine 1/4 cup boiling water with the baking soda. Add the water to the batter and stir to combine. Stir in the chocolate chunks.

  5. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean -- about 40 minutes.

  6. Transfer brownies to a rack to cool. Serve warm or at room temperature.
