  1. 1/2 c vegetable shortening

  2. 1/2 c sugar

  3. 1/2 c brown sugar

  4. 1/2 c peanut butter

  5. 1 egg

  6. 1 1/2 c sifted flour

  7. 1/2 tsp baking soda

  8. 1/2 tsp salt

  9. 1 small package chocolate chips

  1. Cream the shortening, both sugars, and the peanut butter together. Add the egg and beat the mixture.

  2. Mix and sift the flour, baking soda, and salt. Add the dry ingredients to the rest of the mixture and blend well. Roll the dough into a rectangle about ¼ inch thick.

  3. Melt the chocolate chips in a double boiler. Spread the melted chocolate onto the rectangle of dough. Roll the rectangle into a log and chill for 1 hour.

  4. Slice the log into ¼ inch thick cookies. Bake on an ungreased cookie sheet for 12 minutes at 350°.
