  1. 1/2 cup German sweet chocolate

  2. 1/2 cup boiling water

  3. 1 cup butter

  4. 1 cup sugar

  5. 4 egg yolks

  6. 4 egg whites , stiffly beaten

  7. 1 teaspoon vanilla

  8. 2-1/2 cups flour

  9. 1 teaspoon baking soda

  10. 1/2 teaspoon salt

  11. 1 cup buttermilk

  1. Melt chocolate in boiling water.

  2. Cream butter and sugar until fluffy.

  3. Add egg yolks, vanilla, and chocolate.

  4. Add dry ingredients alternately with buttermilk.

  5. Fold in egg whites.

  6. Pour into three prepared pans, with sides lightly greased and floured and lined on bottoms with wax paper.

  7. Bake at 300 degrees for 35 minutes.

  8. Frost tops of layers with your favourite icing/frosting.

  9. I do not frost sides of cake.
