  1. 1/2 cup butter

  2. 1/2 cup sugar

  3. 1 cup brown sugar

  4. 2 cups sifted plain flour

  5. 1 cup buttermilk

  6. 1 teaspoon baking soda

  7. 1 egg

  8. 1 teaspoon vanilla

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F Butter well and lightly flour 9 x 13 inch baking pan.

  2. Cream butter thoroughly; add sugar gradually beating well after each addition.

  3. Blend in flour and mix well Remove 1/2 cup of crumb mixture and set aside for topping use To remainder of mixture, add buttermilk, soda, egg and vanilla.

  4. Beat until completely blended Pour batter into prepared pan and sprinkle topping evenly over surface.

  5. Bake 35-40 minutes *Topping*

  6. Heath English Toffee candy bars, crushed 1/4 cup chopped nuts 1/2 cup reserved dry ingredients Finely crush the 6 candy bars.

  7. Mix candy with chopped nuts and reserve 1/2 cup dry mixture Proceed as directed above **
