  1. 3 pounds beef chuck roast boneless

  2. 1 tablespoon vegetable oil

  3. 1 tablespoon basil whole, crushed

  4. 1 small onion ringed

  5. 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

  6. 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

  7. 1 cup water hot

  1. Brown roast on both sides in hot oil in a large Dutch oven .

  2. Sprinkle roast with basil, garlic powder, and pepper; top with onion. Add hot water. Bring to a boil; cover, reduce heat, and simmer 2 1/2 hours or until tender.

  3. Remove from pan drippings to serve.
