  1. 1 cup 237ml Masoor dal

  2. 3 Sliced onions

  3. 3 Tomatoes

  4. 4 Garlic - crushed

  5. 1/2 teaspoon 2 1/2ml Chilli powder - optional

  6. 3 teaspoons 15ml Curry powder

  7. 1 tablespoon 15ml Ghee

  8. Salt - to taste

  9. To Serve Lemon slices

  10. 1/2 cup 80g / 2.8oz Cooked rice

  1. A spicy soup for the cold and wet days.

  2. Preparation time : 15 minutes. Cooking time : 35 minutes.

  3. Heat the ghee in a vessel and fry the onions for a little time.

  4. Add the crushed garlic and chilli and curry powders. Fry again until it gives a nice aroma.

  5. Add 6 teacups of water, the tomatoes and the washed masoor dal and cook in a pressure cooker.

  6. When cooked, pass the mixture through a sieve.

  7. Boil for 15 minutes. Add salt.

  8. Serve hot with cooked rice and slices of lemon.
