  1. LENTIL:

  2. 250 gm Bengal Gram(chanay ki daal),presoaked

  3. 4 glasses water (as required)

  4. CURRY:

  5. 1/4 cup oil

  6. 2 medium onions ,thinly sliced

  7. 125 gm /

  8. 2 medium tomatoes ,roughly chopped

  9. 1/2 tbsp cumin seeds

  10. 500 gm chicken

  11. 1 tbsp ginger garlic paste

  12. 3 cloves

  13. 4-5 whole black peppers

  14. 1 large cardamom

  15. 1" piece of cinnamon stick

  16. 1/4 tsp turmeric powder

  17. 1 tbsp red chillies powder

  18. 1 tbsp coriander powder

  19. 1 tbsp salt

  20. OTHER:

  21. 2-3 green chillies,roughly chopped

  22. 1/2 bunch of fresh coriander leaves ,chopped

  23. 1 tsp garam masala powder

  1. Combine Bengal Gram,turmeric and water in a pan.

  2. Bring to a boil,reduce heat and cook,covered,on medium heat till lentil is tender.Lightly mash with the back of the spoon. See Photo While lentil is cooking,heat oil in a large pan/wok.Add onion and fry till golden brown.

  3. Remove from oil.Put in a blender with tomatoes and cumin seeds.Add little water and blend to a thick paste.

  4. Add chicken to oil and fry for a minute or two.

  5. Add ginger garlic paste,cloves,black pepper,cardamom and cinnamon stick.

  6. Fry for 30 seconds,then add turmeric,red chillies,coriander powder and salt.

  7. Stir and add tomato onion paste.Mix well to coat the chicken.

  8. Add 1/2 cup water and cook,covered,on medium heat till chicken is done and water is almost dried.(Stir occasionally during cooking).

  9. Cook on high heat,stirring frequently until all the moisture has been absorbed. See Photo Add water (1 cup/as required) and bring to a boil.Add cooked lentil and mix well. See Photo Sprinkle green chillies,coriander leaves and garam masala powder. See Photo Cook ,covered,on very low heat for 5 min.

  10. Serve withChapati / Naan or boiled rice.
