  1. 1 cup black peas (soak in water overnight and boil)

  2. 2 onions (chopped)

  3. 3 red chilies (dry)

  4. cup coconut powder

  5. 1/2tsp ginger paste

  6. 1/2tsp garlic paste

  7. 1/2tsp mustard seeds

  8. 1/2tsp fennel seeds

  9. 1tsp cumin seeds

  10. 2tsp coriander seeds

  11. 1 piece cinnamon (stick)

  12. 1 cardamom

  13. 3 cloves

  14. 1 star anise (seeds)

  15. 1/4tsp poppy seeds

  16. 5 Black pepper (pods)

  17. 2tbsp black peas (boil)

  18. 2tbsp tomato paste

  19. 1/2tsp turmeric powder

  20. Salt as per taste

  21. 2tbsp oil

  22. Cilantro leaves (chopped for garnish)

  1. Pressure cooks the soaked black peas till they become soft and tender

  2. First roast 2 chopped onion on the kadhai

  3. Now add the ginger garlic paste

  4. Put the red chilies now

  5. Now add mustard seeds, fennel seeds, cumin seeds, coriander seeds, cinnamon stick, cardamom, cloves, star anise, poppy seeds and black pepper pods

  6. Fry them altogether for 2 minutes

  7. Now add the coconut powder and mix well

  8. It is done now

  9. Leave it to cool down for few minute

  10. Now put the masala in the blender and add 2tbsp of boiled black peas

  11. Now make a nice paste

  12. Heating up 1tbsp of oil in a heavy deep bottom pan

  13. Add 1 chopped onion when the oil is hot enough

  14. Fry the onions till it turns golden brown in color

  15. Put the tomato paste and mix well

  16. Fry for a minutes

  17. Add 1/2tsp of turmeric powder and salt as per taste

  18. Mix them well and cook for a minute

  19. Now add the grinded masala paste and mix well

  20. Add the boiled black peas

  21. Boil it for few minutes

  22. Black peas curry is ready

  23. Garnish it with cilantro leaves

  24. Serve it with rice, roti or parantha
