  1. 1/2 lb 227g / 8oz Dried fava beans - peeled, split,

  2. And soaked in water overnight

  3. 1 Garlic clove, chopped

  4. 3/4 cup 109g / 3.8oz Chopped parsley

  5. Green tops of 1/2 bunch scallions - chopped

  6. 1/2 teaspoon 2 1/2ml Ground cumin

  7. 1/2 teaspoon 2 1/2ml Baking powder

  8. 1/2 teaspoon 2 1/2ml Salt

  9. 1 tablespoon 15ml Chopped fresh cilantro

  10. Toasted sesame seeds - for coating

  11. Tehina - (see recipe)

  1. Drain beans, and place in a food processor with garlic, puree until ground. Add parsley, scallions, cumin, baking powder, salt and cilantro. Pulse and process until thoroughly ground and the mixture comes together.

  2. Turn out into a bowl, wet hands, and form into 2-inch balls. Flatten each ball slightly and roll in toasted sesame seeds. Place on a pan, cover, and refrigerate until you are ready to fry.

  3. In a saucepan heat 2 inches of vegetable oil to 365 degrees. Drop a few ta'miyya into the oil and fry until golden brown, 5 to 8 minutes. Drain on paper towels and serve with tehina as an appetizer. Or stuff them with chopped lettuce and tehina into pita for lunch.
