  1. Meatballs:

  2. 1 kg. ground beef / mutton

  3. 4 tbsp roasted chickpeas / gram flour

  4. 1 tbsp desicated coconut

  5. 1 tsp poppy seeds

  6. 1/2 tsp garam masala

  7. 1 tbsp salt

  8. 1 tbsp red chillies powder

  9. Pinch of nigella seeds,optional

  10. 1 tbsp coriander seeds ,crushed

  11. 1 medium onion ,finely chopped

  12. 4 tbsp mint / fresh coriander leaves ,chopped

  13. 2-3 green chillies,finely chopped

  14. GRAVY:

  15. 1/2 cup oil

  16. 250 gm. onions ,thinly sliced

  17. 300 gm. tomatoes ,chopped

  18. 1/2 cup / 125 gm. yogurt

  19. 1 tsp cumin seeds

  20. 1 tbsp ginger garlic paste

  21. 4-6 black pepper ,whole

  22. 4-5 cloves

  23. 1 large cardamom

  24. 1 inch piece cinnamon stick

  25. 2 tbsp crushed coriander seeds

  26. 1 1/2 to 2 tbsp crushed red chillies

  27. 1/4 tsp turmeric powder

  28. pinch of nigella seeds

  29. salt ,to taste

  30. 1/2 tsp garam masala powder

  31. 1/4 tsp nutmeg & mace powder

  32. 2 tbsp green coriander leaves ,chopped

  1. Grind chickpeas,coconut and poppy seeds to a fine powder.

  2. Combine all ingredients of meatballs in a large bowl.

  3. Mix well and let stand 1/2 an hour to blend flavours.

  4. Mean while,heat oil in a large pan/wok.Fry sliced onion in oil at medium heat till light brown.

  5. Remove from oil and drain on absorbent paper.

  6. Put tomatoes,yogurt,cumin seeds and fried onions in a blender and blend to a smooth paste.

  7. Reheat the oil in the pan.Add ginger garlic paste,black pepper,cloves,cardamom,cinnamon stick and fry for 30 seconds,then add the above paste.

  8. Add crushed coriander seeds,crushed red chillies,turmeric powder,nigella seeds and salt.

  9. Cook,covered,on medium heat till water dries and the sides leave oil.

  10. Mean while,prepare meatballs.With wet hands,shape mixture into medium sized balls.

  11. When gravy is ready,add the prepared meatballs in a single layer.

  12. Cook on low heat,moving the pan occasionally for 15-20 minutes or until meatballs are done.

  13. Add little water,if the gravy is very thick and bring to a boil.

  14. Remove from heat.Sprinkle garam masala,nutmeg & mace powder.Garnish with chopped coriander leaves.

  15. Serve hot with Naan/Chappati.
