  3. Cream of tartar 1/8 Teaspoon

  4. Vanilla 1/4 Teaspoon

  5. Salt 1 Dash

  6. Sugar 1/4 Cup (16 tbs)

  7. Ice cream (butter brickie, pistachio, butter pecan, or cherry-nut) - to serve

  1. Directions GETTING READY 1. To prepare the cup cakes hollow out center, leaving about 1/4-inch of cake around sides and bottom.

  2. Preheat oven to 500°.

  3. MAKING 3. In a bowl beat egg whites with cream of tartar, vanilla and salt till soft peaks form.

  4. Gradually add sugar, beating to stiff peaks, fill cupcakes with ice cream and place on wooden cutting board.

  5. Quickly cover top and sides with meringue, sealing edges at bottom and place Alaskas in freezer.

  6. Bake Alaskas at 500° till meringue is browned, 2 to 3 minutes.

  7. SERVING 7. Remove from the oven and serve immediately.
