  1. 4 slices bacon

  2. 2 cups (1-lb. can) pork and beans in tomato sauce

  3. 1/4 cup firmly packed brown sugar

  4. 2 tablespoons chopped onion

  5. 1/4 teaspoon garlic salt

  6. 1/4 cup catsup or chili sauce

  1. Directions Preheat oven to 350°.

  2. In skillet, cook bacon until crisp.

  3. Drain on paper towel, reserving 2 tablespoons drippings.

  4. Combine the drippings with remaining ingredients in 1-quart casserole.

  5. Sprinkle with crumbled bacon.

  6. Bake, uncovered, 25 to 30 minutes or until bubbly and heated through.

  7. TIPS:

  8. If desired, combine all ingredients in skillet and simmer, covered, 10 minutes.

  9. For additional flavor, add 1/2 teaspoon dry or prepared mustard; 1 can (8 1/2 oz.) crushed pineapple or pineapple tidbits, drained; 1 apple, chopped; 1/2 green pepper, chopped; or 1 to 2 cups sliced wieners, cubed ham or luncheon meat.

  10. Summer's gold delicately seasoned and sauteed until just tender.
