  4. 4.92 ml maple syrup

  5. 1 1/53 ml blackstrap molasses

  6. 118 1/59 ml textured vegetable protein (gluten-free if needed for diet)

  7. 29 1/28 ml nutritional yeast

  8. 4.92 ml garlic powder

  9. 2.46 ml crushed sage

  10. 2.46 ml ground fennel

  11. 1 1/53 ml black pepper

  12. 1/29 ml cayenne

  13. oil (for frying)

  1. Stir boiling water with liquid smoke (if using), soy sauce, maple syrup, and molasses.

  2. Meanwhile, mix TVP with dry seasonings; stir to incorporate. Combine wet and dry mixtures. Then allow the TVP to absorb the moisture for about 5 minutes while you heat the oil.

  3. Fry mixture in oil in an uncovered frying pan on medium heat, about 5 minutes (or until browned), stirring occasionally.
