  1. 1 onion

  2. 1 clove of garlic, crushed

  3. 1 tbsp ginger, chopped

  4. 1 kilogram of beef mince

  5. 1 tbsp ground cumin

  6. 1 tbsp ground coriander seed

  7. 1 tsp turmeric

  8. 1 teaspoon cinnamon

  9. 1 teaspoon fennel seeds

  10. Chili powder, dried chili flakes or fresh chili to taste

  11. 2 bananas

  12. cup sultanas

  13. 750mls vegetable / beef stock or water

  14. 2 eggs, beaten

  15. 2 slices bread

  16. To serve: Rice, yoghurt or raita and chutney

  1. Fry onion in 2 tablespoons vegetable oil and when they start to caramelize, addCrushed garlic and chopped ginger and continue to fry till fragrant.

  2. Set these ingredients aside Brown beef mince & add the onion mix above.

  3. Cumin, coriander seed, turmeric, cinnamon, fennel seeds and chilli.

  4. Continue to stir the above ingredients all mixed together until the aromas & oils of the spices are released (normally one or two minutes).

  5. Add 2 bananas, half a cup of sultanas and a cup of your favourite chutney.

  6. Add 750 mls water/beef or vegetable stock & season to taste.

  7. Bring this mixture to the boil and slowly simmer until the liquids are absorbed and thicken and the fruits have softened.

  8. Place serving sizes of meat in gratin dishes, top with white bread rounds dipped in egg & milk (omelette mix), pour extra egg wash over the meat dish & top with sliced almonds. Cook at 180 Degrees for about half an hour.

  9. Serve with spiced basmati rice, yoghurt raita and more chutney!
