  1. 1 1/2 lb lean (at least 80%) ground beef

  2. 1 medium onion, chopped (1/2 cup)

  3. 4 cloves garlic, finely chopped

  4. 1 tablespoon fennel seed, if desired

  5. 1 teaspoon salt

  6. 1/4 teaspoon pepper

  7. 1/2 cup dry red wine or nonalcoholic red wine

  8. 1 tablespoon packed brown sugar

  9. 1 can (28 oz) Muir Glen® organic diced tomatoes, undrained

  10. 1 teaspoon dried oregano leaves

  11. 10 sandwich buns, split

  1. In 12-inch nonstick skillet, cook beef, onion and garlic over medium-high heat 8 to 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until beef is thoroughly cooked and onion is tender; drain. Stir in fennel seed, salt and pepper.

  2. Stir in wine, brown sugar, tomatoes and oregano. Heat to boiling. Reduce heat; simmer uncovered about 15 minutes or until mixture is slightly thickened.

  3. Spoon mixture into buns.
