  1. 1 cup Uncooked quick-cooking oats

  2. cup All-purpose flour

  3. cup Packed brown sugar

  4. teaspoon Salt

  5. teaspoon Vanilla extract

  6. cup Shortening

  7. cup Sugar

  8. 1 Egg

  9. teaspoon Baking soda

  10. cup Chopped walnuts

  11. 1 cup Mini chocolate chips

  1. A combination of two favorite cookies: oatmeal and chocolate chip.

  2. Preheat oven to 375.

  3. In a large bowl, with mixer at medium speed, beat all ingredients except walnuts and chips until well mixed, occasionally scraping bowl. Stir in walnuts and chocolate chips.

  4. Drop by teaspoonfuls, 1-inch apart, onto greased cookie sheets. Bake at 375 for 12 minutes or until lightly browned Immediately remove cookies to wire racks and let cool.
