  1. 3 pounds boneless chuck roast

  2. 1 tablespoon vegetable oil

  3. 1 tablespoon dried whole basil crushed

  4. 1 small onion cut into rings

  5. 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

  6. 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

  7. 1 cup hot water

  1. Brown roast on both sides in hot oil in a large Dutch oven.

  2. Sprinkle roast with basil, garlic powder and pepper then top with onion.

  3. Add hot water then bring to a boil and cover then reduce heat and simmer 3 hours.

  4. Remove from pan drippings to serve.
