  3. 1 1/2 teaspoons salt

  4. 1 3/4 cups granulated sugar

  5. 1 cup shortening

  6. 3/4 cup milk

  7. 1 teaspoon orange extract

  8. 1/2 teaspoon almond extract

  9. 3 eggs, unbeaten

  10. Topping

  11. 2 tablespoons flour

  12. 3 tablespoons brown sugar

  13. 3 tablespoons confectioners' sugar

  14. 1/4 teaspoon orange extract

  15. 1/4 teaspoon finely grated orange peel

  16. 1/2 cup chopped pecans

  1. Sift together 2 3/4 cups flour, baking powder and salt into large mixing bowl.

  2. add granulated sugar and stir. Cut in shortening. Add milk,1 teaspoon orange extract, almond extract, and eggs. Beat thoroughly.

  3. Combine 3/4 cup of the batter with 2 tablespoons flour, brown sugar, confectioners'

  4. sugar, orange extract, and orange rind. Mix well. Spread topping in bottom of well-greased tube pan.

  5. Pour remaining batter over top and bake at 375 for 45 minutes to 1 hour. Remove cake from pan immediately so topping won't stick.
