  1. 1/4 cup granulated sugar

  2. 1 pound green beans, trimmed

  3. 1 quart water, boiling

  4. 2 tablespoons olive oil

  5. 2 tablespoons bacon, fried, crumbled

  6. Pepper to taste

  1. Heat heavy saucepan over medium-high heat; add sugar and stir just until melted.

  2. Add green beans and boiling water; cover and boil for six minutes. Drain; plunge beans into ice water. Drain.

  3. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet, add beans, cook just until through. Stir in bacon; season to taste.
