  1. 175g butter, softened

  2. 175g caster sugar

  3. 1 teaspoon vanilla essence

  4. 2 teaspoons orange zest

  5. 3 eggs, lightly beaten

  6. 175g self raising flour

  7. 50g milk chocolate, melted

  8. For the icing:

  9. 250g sifted icing sugar

  10. 60g melted butter

  11. 1 tablespoon sifted cocoa powder

  12. 2 tablespoons boiling water

  1. Preheat the oven to 180C. Lightly grease and line a 20 cm cake tin.

  2. Cream the butter, sugar, vanilla essence and orange zest until light and fluffy. Add the eggs, a little at a time until well combined. Fold in the sifted flour.

  3. Remove half of the mixture to a separate bowl. Stir in the chocolate until well combined.

  4. Drop spoonfuls of the mixtures alternately into the lined tin. Bake for 35 minutes, or until a skewer comes out clean. Cool in the tin for 10 minutes before turning out onto a wire rack.

  5. Mix together icing ingredients, adding enough boiling water to reach desired consistency. Spread over cake and serve.
