  1. Cookies:

  2. 1/2 cup butter

  3. 1 cup light brown sugar, packed

  4. 1 egg

  5. 1/2 teaspoon vanilla

  6. 2 cups sifted all-purpose flour

  7. 3/4 teaspoon soda

  8. 3/4 teaspoon baking powder

  9. 1/4 teaspoon salt

  10. 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

  11. 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg

  12. 1/3 cup sour cream

  13. 1 cup coarsely chopped salted cashews

  14. Icing:

  15. 3 tablespoons butter

  16. 2 cups sifted confectioners' sugar

  17. 2 tablespoons milk

  18. 1 teaspoon vanilla

  1. Cookies: Cream butter and brown sugar until light. Add egg and vanilla; beat well. Sift together the dry ingredients; add to the creamed mixture, alternating with sour cream, until well blended. Stir in the cashews. Drop by teaspoonful about 2 inches apart onto lightly greased baking sheet. Bake at 400 for 8 to 10 minutes, until lightly browned. Remove cookies immediately to a wire rack to cool.

  2. Makes about 4 dozen cashew cookies.

  3. Browned Butter Icing: In a saucepan heat 3 tablespoons butter until lightly browned. Slowly beat in the confectioners' sugar, milk, and vanilla. If necessary add more confectioners' sugar or milk to get a good spreading consistency. Frost cooled cookies.
